Five Things Vietnam Learned From Their Win Over the UAE

Vietnam managed yet another win in World Cup Qualifying, this time beating out the UAE 1-0 in Hanoi to climb to the top of Group G. Football Tribe Vietnam’s Tran Tien looks at five things we learned after watching the side gain supremacy in what is shaping up to be the Southeast Asian group of death:

Hat Tip to Coach Park Hang Seo

Coach Park Hang Seo has studied a lot about Bert van Marwijk's tactics and prepared well for the match. The Korean tactician made the right approach for the game when he chose not to push forward and attack at the start of the match and Vietnam had the win as expected.

Magic Moment from Tien Linh

The moment Tien Linh scored from a long-range shot was the difference between the two teams. That made many people surprise that the 22-year-old rarely scores from these kinds of shots, but he could do it in the match against UAE to bring joy to Vietnamese fans.

Superb Nguyen Tuan Anh

Tuan Anh returned to the squad after missing the game against Indonesia due to injury. The 22-year-old completely stopped UAE playmaker Omar Abdulrahman from operating. He also controlled the ball well and helped circulate the ball in midfield, contributing a lot to the win of the team.

Red Card Changed the Game

The red card from Khalifa Al Hammadi near the end of the first half was the moment that changed the game. Following that moment, the hosts had the numerical advantage in many areas on the field, leading them to score. After that, it was not so difficult to maintain the lead until the end of the match.

Vietnam in the Driver Seat in Group G

Vietnam now at the top of Group G with 10 points after 4 games. Park Hang Seo's side now has a three-point advantage above Thailand and a four-point lead over UAE. Another win against Thailand next Tuesday will help the team take closer to the third round of the qualifiers.
