Hanoi Seal Fourth V-League Title

Vietnamese outfit Hanoi FC sealed their fourth V-league title last Sunday with 2-0 a victory over Song Lam Nghe An. Two goals from Hoang Vu Samson, who returned to the club for the second league of the domestic season after a spell with Buriram United, was enough to seal the victory and secure the title with five games to spare.

Second-placed side Sannah Khanh Hoa also picked up three points this weekend, and were the only remaining side with a mathematical possibility of challenging the capital club to the title before last weekend.

Despite the title race being sealed, there remain many aspects of the league that are yet to be decided. Sanna will defend their potential AFC Cup spot from FLC Thanh Hoa and Song Lam Nghe An, while most of the bottom half are still contending with the prospect of relegation.

Elsewhere, this weekend’s Thai League action saw a number of changes at the bottom of the table. Chainat Hornbill was lifted above the relegation zone after collecting a respectable point away at Port FC. Police Tero spurned a two-goal lead at home to Muangthong United, which saw them fall back into the drop-zone while Bangkok Glass took a massive stride towards safety with a 2-1 home win over Ratchaburi.

Second-placed Bangkok United failed to close the gap league leaders Buriram United despite a 4-0 victory away at Navy, and the nine-point gulf makes it likely that the defending Champions will win their seventh Thai League title.
