Media Watch – Asian Games Round of 16

With the knockout stage of the Asian Games already underway, fans across the South-East Asian nations still in the tournament have taken to social media to express their thoughts and concerns about their team’s chances of going all the way.

Thailand’s men’s team returned disappointed after a poor showing in Indonesia, and the social media fall-out continues to rage on in the country. Attention is now shifting to the Women’s team, who have qualified for the quarter-finals and preparing for a match against China.

Vietnam has qualified for the Quarter Finals of the Asian Games for the first time in their history, and fans are becoming ever more optimistic that this could be the start of something special for their nation.

Malaysia, too, sees this tournament as the start of a new “golden generation” for their team. Forward Safawi Rasid currently sits tied atop the goalscoring charts at the competition after netting four times so far. They face a youthful, disciplined and promising Japan side.

Lastly, hosts Indonesia are hoping to end a poor run of results against Arab nations when they take on the UAE.
