Vietnam edge Indonesia to reach AFC Women’s Futsal Championship semi-final

Vietnam women’s team earned a 2-1 win over Indonesia to reach the semi-finals of the 2018 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship in Thailand on Wednesday.

This is the fourth consecutive win of Vietnam in a tournament where they failed to win a match three years ago.

Vietnamese side dominated the game from the very first minute. In the 13th minute, they broke the deadlock with a lovely move, as Vo Thi Thuy Trinh’s wonderful backheel opened up the Indonesian defence and allowed Bien Thi Hang to set up Bui Thi Trang.

After the break, Indonesia fought back to level the score and their efforts were paid off within five minutes thanks to an exceptional finish from the outside of Febriana.

When the regular time came to an end, Nguyen Thi Hue scored the precious late goal which decided the contest in the 90+3 minute.

Indonesia pressed on for the equalizer in the dying time but failed to prevent Vietnam from completing a 2-1 historic win and celebrating their place in the final four.

Vietnam will face Iran in the semi-final, which takes place on Thursday.
