Chongqing Lifan appoint ex-Portugal boss Paulo Bento as new manager

Paulo Bento has been appointed as the new head coach of Chinese Super League club Chongqing Lifan.

The 48-year-old tactician replaced South Korean coach Chang Woe-Ryong, who left the club on Sunday by mutual consent.

“I was attracted to the long-term project that the club are implementing. It is also a great chance to understand a new country and a new culture,” said Bento in his first press conference on Monday.

“The CSL have made major progress in the last two years, I am honoured to take this opportunity to come to China.

“The fans are the most important, that’s who we’re out there fighting for. We will bring the greatest happiness to our fans with the best attitude and best performance.”

Bento, who led his country Portugal from 2010 to 2014, has been without club since March after he was sacked by Greek Superleague title holders Olympiacos.
