Chinese Super League match suspended due to nearby boy band concert

A Chinese Super League match between Jiangsu Suning and Tianjin Quanjian, which was scheduled to play at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre, was postponed over “security concern”, with a boyband performing at a concert in a venue close by.

According to reports from Chinese media, TFBoys, a wildly popular boyband, were performing at a gymnasium nearby. Security officers decided that the risk was too high to have two big events held within a short distance of each other.

“Due to security concerns, the CSL match and the TFBoys concert cannot be held in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre and the Gymnasium respectively at the same time. So we have decided to reschedule the CSL match to September 28,” read a CFA statement.

A separate statement from China Sports Media, Chinese Super League’s official broadcaster, said the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre would be unable to provide adequate security for both events.
