Johor Darul Ta’zim, Sukhothai advance in AFC Champions League play-off

Johor Darul Ta’zim defeated Thai League runners-up Bangkok United 5-4 on penalties in the second preliminary round of the AFC Champions League playoff, while goals from Katano, Lursan, Adrovic (two), and Weerasak helped Sukhothai to a 5-0 victory against Yadanarbon.

Meanwhile, Brandon Borrello became the first A-League footballer to score four goals in an AFC Champions League match as Brisbane Roar easily defeated Filipino club Global FC 6-0 on Thursday.

Johor Darul Ta’zim will face J1 League outfit Gamba Osaka in the final play-off round, while Sukhothai and Brisbane Roar will be pitted against Chinese Super League sides Shanghai SIPG and Shanghai Shenhua, respectively.

I-League champions Bengaluru FC bowed out of the competition after losing 1-2 to Jordanian side Al Wehdat, while Uzbek League outfit Nasaf Qarshi advanced to the next round through a 4-0 win against Al-Hidd.
