Malaysia U-23 coach Ong Kim Swee to make tactical change for AFC U-23 finals

Malaysia U-23 coach Ong Kim Swee will focus on defense and midfield during the training stint in South Korea and China next month.

Kim Swee and his players will conduct the training sessions abroad in preparation for the AFC U-23 Championship in China next January.

“There are no more easy matches at this stage. We need to be compact and disciplined. So I’ll make some changes to the way we play,” said Kim Swee yesterday, as quoted by The Star.

“I might call up new players to add options in defense and midfield. We need players to back up the regulars, especially on the flanks. I’ve also been thinking about our defense, whether to play a three or four-man defense.”

Debutants Malaysia have been drawn in Group C with three Middle East sides: Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
