Australia captain Mile Jedinak could miss World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Thailand

Captain Mile Jedinak could be set to miss out on Australia‘s last World Cup qualifiers against Japan and Thailand.

The 33-year-old was ruled out of the Socceroos’ Confederations Cup campaign in June after undergoing surgery on his groin.

Jedinak will miss Aston Villa’s Championship season opener with Hull City this weekend.

According to ABC, Aston Villa said in a statement that Jedinak was “in light training but is still approximately two weeks away from being available”, while manager Steve Bruce confirmed the midfielder would be out for “a couple of weeks”.

Australia currently sits third in its World Cup qualifying group. The Socceroos have to win both clashes against Japan and Thailand to earn a ticket to Russia next summer as one of the top two teams in the group.
