AFF to send proposal to AFC over 2017 SEA Games’ drawing

The Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) will submit a proposal to Asian Football Confederation (AFC) over the highly controversial drawing process of hosts Malaysia in 2017 SEA Games’ football.

At the AFF 11th Council Meeting for the session 2015/2019, which took place on Saturday in Nha Trang, Vietnam, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) made official protest over the controversial drawing proposal.

According to VFF representatives, this is the first time this draw setting has been applied at the SEA Games and it is not in accordance with international practices applied at football tournaments.

The right to select which of the two groups that host Malaysia can participate in will lead to the inequity and does not ensure the balance in quality between the groups.

The AFF board agreed with this dissent from Vietnam football association and approved the proposal to send a petition to the AFC for an official statement about the proposal.
