Former Jeonbuk Motors scout found dead at stadium

A former Jeonbuk Motors scout involved in bribing referees conviction was found dead in an apparent suicide at the team’s home stadium, the club said on Friday.

The Korea Herald quoted police as saying this scout was found hanged at Jeonju World Cup Stadium in Jeonju.

Last September, the scout was sentenced to an eight-month prison term and suspended for two years after bribing two referees in 2013. The scout, who joined Jeonbuk in 2002, was immediately removed from his position after the ruling.

After this incident, Jeonbuk were docked nine points and fined 100 million won by the K League’s disciplinary committee.

The team were later barred from defending their AFC Champions League crown over their involvement in the scandal.
