Milovan Rajevac to make Thailand debut against Uzbekistan

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has confirmed today that the War Elephants will play a friendly match against Uzbekistan on 6 June 2017 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

This is the debut of Milovan Rajevac as the head coach of Thailand national team.

Rajevac touched down at the Suvarnabhumi airport yesterday. He arrived with his team, including assistant coach Zoran Jankovic and goalkeeping coach Sasa Todic. The fitness coach is expected to join them in the next few days.

The Serbian head coach will be officially unveiled at a press conference this afternoon at the Football Association of Thailand headquarters.

Thailand’s friendly match against Uzbekistan will be followed by a World Cup qualifier against the United Arab Emirates at Rajamangala National Stadium on 13 June.

Thailand are already eliminated from Group B of the AFC third qualification round after one draw and six losses. However, the War Elephants will want to leave with their heads held high under the reign of the new boss.

Meanwhile, FAT technical chief Witthaya Laohakul earlier revealed that the association would name three Thai assistants to work with Rajevac’s team.

“We have enlisted seven possible candidates for the three positions,” said Witthaya. “We hope they can learn as much as possible from working with Mr Rajevac’s team and then maybe the assistant coach can one day step up and become coach of our national team.”
