AFC Champions League: Jiangsu crush Gamba, Urawa edge Shanghai

Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning FC defeated Japan’s Gamba Osaka 3-0 in their Group H clash of the AFC Champions League played at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center on Tuesday.

Brazilian duo Alex Teixeira and Ramires grabbed early goals for the host before Hong Jeong-Ho added a third just 2 minutes before half-time.

In the other Group H encounter, Jeju United suffered their first ever defeat to an Australian opposition as Adelaide United inflicted a 3-1 loss over the K-League side.

Adelaide United took an early lead through midfielder Kim Jae-Sung in the 7th minute before Jeju hit back with an equalizer from Mago Cruz one minute later.

In the second-half, the visitors took the game to the South Korean side and were rewarded with two goals from defender Dylan McGowan and midfielder Riley McGree.

These results mean Jiangsu advance to the next round with 12 points from 4 matches. Jeju United and Adelaide United are behind with four points each while Osaka are bottom with three points.

Meanwhile, Urawa Red Diamonds narrowly beat Shanghai SIPG on Tuesday in a crucial AFC Champions League Group F clash.

Rafael Silva scored the only goal of the match from a clinical finish right before half-time.

This highlights of the game were the inability of Oscar to convert from the spot as the Brazil international missed two penalties that cost Shanghai the game.

The defeat saw Shanghai conceded the top spot to Urawa. Both sides have 9 points but Urawa have the superior goal difference (+7) comparing to Shanghai’s +5.

The other Group F encounter saw FC Seoul claim their first win of the AFC Champions League when they beat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-2.

Lee Seok-Hyun opened the score after just four minutes, and a brace from Dejan Damjanovic (42′, 71′) seemed to put the match beyond doubt.

Late goals in the second-half by Terry Antonis (77′) and Lachlan Scott (90′) were not enough for the host.

FC Seoul leap to third place after gaining 3 points from this match, while Western Sydney Wanderers sit on the bottom of Group F.
