Massive fire breaks out at Shanghai Shenhua’s stadium

Fire outbreak has damaged the stadium of Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, the local media reported on Tuesday.

China’s state news agency Xinhua said the fire pouring from one side of the Hongkou Football Stadium as it was also showed in the online viral pictures.

The cause of the blaze at the 33,000-capacity venue was still being investigated. However, according to the city government, there were no casualties and it had not affected the stands or the pitch.

“The blaze broke out at the Hongkou Stadium early Tuesday and was extinguished by mid-morning,” the report said.

Shanghai Shenhua made global headlines around the turn of the year when they signed Carlos Tevez from Boca Juniors on a lucrative contract.

Gus Poyet men are set to play back-to-back away games against Beijing Guoan and Hebei China Fortune before playing a home game against Changchun Yatai on April 16.
