El-Arabi’s brace helps Lekhwiya to a dream start in AFC Champions League

Moroccan striker Youssef El-Arabi was Man of the Match for Qatar’s Lekhwiya as he scored twice to help the team to a 3-0 victory over Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to kick off their AFC Champions League campaign in Group B.

The in-form attacker has scored an incredible 21 goals in just 16 league matches for Lekhwiya.

The 3-0 victory is expected to help Lekhwiya to gain momentum in the continental competition, where they will visit Saudi Arabia’s Al-Fateh for the upcoming match.

Al-Fateh has suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hand of Esteghlal Khuzestan on Monday.

In the group A, 2015 AFC Champions League runners-up Al Ahli recorded a 2-1 victory over Iranians Esteghlal thanks to a brace from Makhete Diop, while Al Taawoun of Saudi Arabia had a dream start to their maiden appearance in the competition with a 1-0 win against Lokomotiv Tashkent.
