Kashima Antlers midfielder Gaku Shibasaki has joined Spanish Segunda division club, Club Deportiva Tenerife on loan until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old initially was expected to join Las Palmas, but the proposed transfer fell through after the Primera Division outfit decided not to sign him.
Shibasaki helped Kashima to a Japanese double title last year, with The Antlers claiming a record eighth J. League championship title and the Emperor’s Cup.
The Japanese international rose to prominence and caught attention after netting a brace for Kashima in the final of the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup against Real Madrid.
