Muangthong United record five-goal victory over Sukhothai

Thai League defending champions Muangthong United have defeated joint-winner of the 2016 FA Cup, Sukhothai in the first edition of the Thailand Champions Cup (formerly known as Kor Royal Cup).

This is Thailand’s first match since the end of the last season following the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Muangthong United qualified for the match as last year’s Thai League champions, while Sukhothai qualified as FA Cup champions.

However, Muangthong United’s attacking prowess proved too much for Sukhothai to handle. The defending champions were on fire with goals from Xisco, Cleiton (2), Sarach Yooyen and Teerasil Dangda secure them a 5-0 victory.

Muangthong United won the 2016 Thai League with 80 points, five more than Bangkok United.
